Dundee Ice Arena to Host NHL Stars & Scottish Alumni for Charity Ice Hockey Match

This August, a number of well-known names in the ice hockey world will head to Dundee to participate in a charity match in aid of the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and the StopConcussions Foundation. Hosted at the Dundee Ice Arena on August 19th, the event will pit a team of Scottish Alumni against a team from the Sheriff Ice Hockey Club, the latter being bolstered by the addition of a few imports from the NHL.

Speaking to the Evening Telegraph, organiser Neil Webster told of how he was inspired to hold the event. “I’ve been watching ice hockey all my days,” he states. “My uncle was with the Fife Flyers and I was fortunate enough to play in a charity match over in Canada.

“That was incredible. It gave me the inspiration to want to do something similar here.”

Continuing on to discuss the event itself, he further told the Telegraph, “We’ve got three guys coming over from the NHL and, with the Scottish Alumni, we’ll have some legends of the game — the likes of Grant Slater and Jock McGuff — so we’re really trying to get people through the door to see them.

“There’s a really nice mix of talent involved and we are hoping it can help us to raise as much as possible before, during and after the event for a brilliant charity.”

In order to fund the event, the organisers have set up a crowdfunding page to raise an initial sum of £3,000. Ticket sales, priced at £15 for adults and £8 for children, alongside the sale of jerseys both online and at the event, will raise further funds for the charitable organisations involved. The jerseys of the participating NHL stars will sell at the event for £250, while the rest will go out at £100. Those not sold on the day will be put up for auction at a later date.

You even have the option to get involved yourself, testing your skills against the professionals, as places are on offer on the Sheriff Ice Hockey Club team for the price of £400. Pricey, but it is for charity after all, and for ice hockey fans it promises to be an amazing experience.
